Welcome to the World’s End VI Resource Base!
The World’s End VI Resource Base is a specialist centre that serves children with visual impairments from all areas of Birmingham. Parents and carers can apply for places by contacting the school.
The VI Resource Base serves children with VI from both the World’s End Junior school as well as the World’s End Nursery and Infants school. At the moment there are a total of 11 children over both schools with seven currently in the junior school. The aim for the resource base is to provide children with visual impairments with a high-quality education that allows them to access the curriculum while also learning specialist VI skills in the Expanded Core Curriculum. In this way children can have a strong start in life to succeed in their future endeavours.
Underpinning all of our work is inclusion and a focus on the child. We want all children to participate as fully as their peers in all aspects of school life. Children will only be withdrawn for extra VI curricular areas such as specialist technology, Braille, mobility, independent living skills as well as social skills. Along with this, the VI Resource base works with services across Birmingham to provide children with specialist skills such as VI technology, Braille transcription and Habilitation. Children are at the core of all that we do.
The VI Resource Base also values the role parents and carers play in their children’s education. Parents and carers are encouraged to meet up with other parents in Parents’ Events. We can support parents/carers by signposting various charities and services that are of vital importance to you. Your child can expect to be supported not only academically but also socially and emotionally at World’s End VI Resource base.
The staff at the VI Resource Base are highly skilled and experienced, including specialist teaching assistants as well as a Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI).
We warmly welcome visits to the VI Resource Base which can be arranged by emailing Gill Chambers, Lead QTVI enquiry@worldsend.bham.sch.uk or phoning the school office.
